Overview

Chevrolet - FNR is an autonomous concept vehicle that offers a glimpse at the mobility of the future. The project lasted for a year and the show car debuted at 2015 Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition. The goal is to design a unique, intelligent vehicle for tomorrow’s younger consumers by utilizing innovative car networking technology.

Role

I worked on the interior of the Chevrolet-FNR concept car, conducting ground researches, proposing the theme sketch and facilitating the production of both the digital and physical model as well as the final prototype.

Design development

Inspired from the traditional material of bamboo and strings, I’ve designed an self adjustable light-weight ergonomic seat in the interior.Drawning my inspiration from a range of lightweight items, I started with sketch exploration of the shape and function of the seat, then used 3d rendering and modelling to finalise the details. Before the final product is made, there’s also clay model and hard model created to validate the design.

Design showcase

In self-driving mode, the vehicle’s front seats can swivel 180 degrees to face the rear seats, creating a more intimate setting. The driver can switch to manual mode through the gesture control feature.

The Chevrolet FNR made its world premiere on April 19th, 2015 at the Shanghai GM Gala Night at Auto Shanghai 2017.
